The Go-Ride Youth Cycle Coaching Sessions are back for 2018 and we have now arranged our dates for the spring months.

Just bring a bike, helmet and a £1 donation is appreciated (this is used for equipment and bikes).

We plan for three groups each week roughly as follows ;

Group 1 – Yonger novice riders doing core skills
Group 2 – Older riders doing more advanced skills
Group 3 – Experienced riders doing more advanced skills and race orientated session


We have four British Cycling Qualified volunteer coaches who will run the sessions each week. These are Clive Harding, Phil Paton, Gillian Bolton and Sean Bolton.

Each week we plan coaching sessions around particular techniques and skills so that over the weeks riders become more proficient and confident riders. Coaching is based on the British Cycling Go-Ride skills program.

First Timers

If you have not been before we need you to complete a one-off consent form (as required by British Cycling). You can download and complete one in advance or fill out one on the day.


Please give your bikes a check over and ensure brakes, gears and chain are all in good working order. As our sessions take place on grass, and as it can be damp at this time of year, we recommend bikes are fitted with a nobbly tread.

And a reminder that we require riders to have bikes with gears and brakes so no single gear, BMX or balance bikes.


For the sessions riders should wear clothing that is not too baggy and that might catch on the bike or in the chain. A jacket is a good idea as this can be taken off when riders have warmed up, or put back on if they are feeling chilly. Gloves are also recommended as riders can suffer with cold hands. Also bring a drink in a bottle which can be sipped during the session, cycling is thirsty work.

Loan Bikes

We also have 4 loan bikes available for use at each session for a donation of £2.
Wiggins 24″ Chartres Hybrid Bike (straight bars)
Wiggins 24″ Rouen Racing Bike (drop bars)
Isla 26″ Luath Racing Bike (drop bars)
Frog 73 26″ Hybrid/Mountain Bike (straight bars)

The bikes will be available first come, first served on the day, or email Sean to reserve one.

We hope the loan bikes we help riders (and parents) choose a bike when moving up to a larger size and whether to go for a Hybrid/MTB style bike or a road style bike with drop handle bars. Or you can loan a bike for the session if you don’t have a bike or would just like to try something different.

Bring A Friend

We have capacity for a few more riders each week so if you know of any friends that might be interested in the Go-Ride please invite them along to try us out.
